Random Interference, 2012

Installation views at Modified Arts Gallery, Downtown Phoenix, Arizona.

This body of work is part of a two-person exhibition with L.A. artist Chris Oatey and curated by Jeff Chabot during the summer of 2012. It continues my exploration of maps in two- and three-dimensions while referencing fictional landscapes, imaginary islands, and familiar places. The works also combine and abstract imagery derived from fire-progression maps and my photographs of the aftermath of the devastating Gladiator Fire near Crown King, Arizona, offering glimpses of a surreal and charred landscape. Connection to the land, human impact on the landscape, and our attempts to reconcile with nature are subtexts to this series.
